At Holistic Behaviour Support, I offer positive behaviour support services that are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. With over 25 years of experience, I provide evidence-based strategies that focus on improving quality of life and reducing behaviours of concern. My approach is person-centred, holistic, and aligned with the principles of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
Positive behaviour support (PBS) is an approach based on values, evidence, and human rights. It’s designed to help individuals with challenging behaviours by identifying the underlying causes and implementing strategies that support their well-being and development. At its core, PBS focuses on improving quality of life and promoting positive, sustainable change.
PBS involves working with the individual, their family, and support teams to create a comprehensive plan. The goal is to empower the person to develop new skills, reduce behaviours that may put them or others at risk, and help them participate more fully in their community and daily life.
When you choose Holistic Behaviour Support, you will receive personalised, compassionate care that prioritises the individual’s needs and goals. My approach includes:
I begin by thoroughly assessing the individual’s behaviour and the factors that may be contributing to it. This includes identifying triggers, understanding the purpose behind the behaviour, and considering environmental, social, and emotional influences.
Based on the assessment, I develop a comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan. This plan outlines evidence-based strategies that can help reduce challenging behaviours and promote positive alternatives. It’s designed in collaboration with the individual, their family, and any support workers or teams involved in their care.
A key part of behaviour support is helping individuals develop new skills. This could include improving communication, learning emotional regulation techniques, or finding safer ways to express frustration or anger. By building capacity, individuals are better able to manage their behaviour and achieve greater independence.
Wherever possible, I work towards reducing restrictive practices, following the guidelines of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. The focus is always on promoting safety and dignity while encouraging positive behaviour change.
I work closely with families, carers, and support workers to ensure everyone is aligned with the Behaviour Support Plan. By providing guidance and training, I help create a consistent, supportive environment that enables the individual to thrive.
Positive behaviour support can benefit individuals of all ages who are experiencing challenging behaviours. This includes people with developmental disabilities, mental health issues, dual diagnoses, or those living with trauma. I work with clients throughout the Northern Rivers region, including Ballina, Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Lismore, Bangalow, Ocean Shores, and Tweed Heads.
I am a registered NDIS provider, and my behaviour support services are available through NDIS funding under the Improved Relationships category. If you or a loved one is accessing the NDIS, I can work with you to ensure that behaviour support is part of your plan. My services align with NDIS policies and are focused on reducing restrictive practices and promoting positive outcomes.
